Matusinski’s angels (coach of 400m women’s relay - Aleksander Matusinski) are coming back to start in front of polish fans. On the 15th of February during the 4th Copernicus Cup (IAAF World Indoor Tour) runners, who in the past season gave the fans a lot reasons to be happy, will fight for the best results on 400m.
Season 2017 was their year! Earlier they have achieved the medals of junior events and had the podium of European Championship U20 and U23.They’ve also reached a medal of European Championship, but their power exploded in last twelve months. After winning a bronze medal at the World Championship in London, they were named by media “Matusinski’s angels”. Charming and ambitious girls won the gold medal at the Indoor European Championship in Belgrade, 2017, the silver medal at the IAAF World Relays (Nassau 2017), the gold medal at the European Team Championship (Lille 2017) and at the Summer Universiade (Taipei 2017). Now, they must face new challenges. On their way to the Indoor World Championship (1-4 of March 2018, Birmingham), where the runners will defend the silver medal achieved in 2016, they will take part in the Copernicus Cup. During the IAAF World Indoor Tour spectators can meet Iga Baumgart, Malgorzata Holub-Kowalik and Justyna Swiety-Ersetic. Swiety-Ersetic admits that she has a good memories of the track at the Arena Torun.
- I made fourth place at the Indoor World Championship (Sopot 2014) on the track which is located in Torun now. It’s a fast surface, which allows to reach really good results. I know that the organizers invited the best athletes. I can’t wait for the competition and the atmosphere of the Copernicus Cup. The full stands and the fast track – it helps to achieved great results – says and smiles Justyna Swiety-Ersetic.
It seems that the most serious opponent of the polish 400m runners will be Salwa Eid Naser. The young, not quite 20 years old, Bahrainian runner made a surprise winning a silver medal at the World Championship (London 2017). Eid Naser haven’t run 400m indoor so far, but her outdoor personal best (49.88) is very interesting. It guarantees an excellent competition at the Copernicus Cup.
The Copernicus Cup – a prestigious competition, the part of IAAF World Indoor Tour – takes place on the 15th of February 2018 at the Arena Torun. The tickets are available at www.ebilet.pl, EMPIK shops and the box offices at the Arena Torun.
